He really, really did not understand why this enormous beast decided it was in the mood for a human snack. Noah could hardly hear from the sound go his own crazy breathing and he ran harder than he could really ever recall. Because one tends to only be chased by large bears once a lifetime, if any.
Noah didn't see the man right in his path until it was too late. He couldn't veer around him without falling and he yelped, crashing into him. It didn't slow him down, his feet still scrabbled against the forest floor and he yelled back to the stranger as he tried to evade death.
"RUN!" A very frightened scream, possibly rivaling his own chased Noah and the stranger was up running with him. The bear seemed even angrier now with two prey to chase and he cursed under his breath. "I don't know, but I didn't stop to ask it!."
He snapped at his companion. Really, it was probably rude to fuss at someone he didn't know but this was not the time for questions. There was a large tree coming up just within reach. Noah glanced back at the bear and down at his own already shaking legs before making a decision.
"We need to go up." That was the best warning he could find to offer as he grabbed the man's hand and pulled them both up to the lowest branch. Noah climbed a bit higher, hissing his magic into a barrier between the tree and the bear.
Vines, shrubs, and thorn bushes latticed together, making a hopefully dissuading blockage at the foot of the tree. Noah panted, feeling the drain of magic use without a meal in over a week. He really wished the damn bear would give up because he needed a rest.
