Joshua Meztil Caelen
Josh, Joshie, J
Joshua was not born to be ordinary. He was born under quite normal circumstances to an exuberant family of performers. The last of three siblings to be born Joshua was a bit slower than his sister and brother to hatch. He was much too young to recall his life before Lariea but Josh can practically taste the sea brine and feel the sun-warmed water on his scales.
The Caelan brood moved to Lairea while Joshua was still toddler and he has never known another home. Josh and his siblings were too young to be of much use for what felt like ages. Their parents di all sorts of jobs to keep a roof over them and food on the table but nothing really seemed to fit. That was until the troupe came through town. Bright colors and noisy crowds entranced the Caelen children but their mother had a better idea than just so watch the shows.
It was Joshua's mother who negotiated their act. The ringmaster was looking for an acrobatic act to rival the European circuits. With no training and just a vague just what they were getting themselves into both his parents, his 21 year old sister, 17 year old brother and 9 year old Joshua signed a contract with a traveling show to perform acrobatic feats. They packed all of their belongings into trunks and moved into a pair of movable trailers, ready to travel across the country.
As with most things, Josh's mother was their teacher. She was the only one with enough knowledge of acrobatics. It started with the tightrope. A long thin rope stretch a great length from one end of the tent to the other that the were expected to walk across. Of course, walking would only be captivating for so long. Balance became a central aspect of their lives, from the foods they ate, the times they practiced and of course the balancing act of actually learning to stay surefooted hundreds of feet up in the air with no net.
As children, Joshua and his siblings adapted the quickest. They were the fastest to learn new maneuvers and his sister even came up with ideas for ways they could change up their act. The Caelen Acrobats was a family act, but it became centric around the youngest three due to their daring feats and contagious exuberance. Josh's sister was the one to suggest they try incorporating their dragon form into the show. The first time their parents watched her swan dive from the rafters they nearly fainted. She landed in the pool with a splash, scales gleaming and grinned at her family.
Joshua was always more of a fan of the trapeze than his sister's stunning death defiance or his brother's tightrope balancing. They were all three well-versed in each other's acts however, able to cover for each other as the drop of a hat. The most popular part of the act had to be their closer though. The triple trapeze act never failed to get the crowd cheering.
For the longest time The Caelen Acrobats was just that, an act limited to just the 5 of them. As their parents grew older however they tired of performing. They owned 70% of the troupe with his sister married to the grandson of the ringmaster who first hired them and was simply a practical choice. Things were not terribly difficult with only the 3 siblings but as time pushed on the act seemed to exhaust its excitement. It was time for change to come.
Today, Joshua is joined by two of his nephews and his brother. His sister has long given up the limelight but her sons are eager as they are clever. Their group is changing and Joshua was put in charge while his brother juggles not only his tightrope work, but also lion-taming. Josh has got his sights set on a flying trapeze act, but for that he needs to find a catcher. He is sure to find some opposition from his family if he brings in an outsider. Joshua knows things have got to shift though and the audience deserves the best they can give.
Energetic: Joshua has always had more energy than he knows what to do with. It's a wonderful thing to channel into his work. His work ethic is nearly unparalleled but he can become annoying without a way to spend his excess enthusiasm. Josh practices numerous gymnastics in both aerial and ground forms. Joshua likes to spend time swimming in his true dragon form when he can, so he makes a point to hit the beaches whenever they are nearby. Overall, he is a ball of excitement who loves to keep busy and on his feet by any means he can find.
Sunny: Really, truly Josh is a ray of sunshine. An eternal optimist, Joshua tries to keep everyone in good spirits and is hardly ever upset for long. He is cheerful as a puppy rolling in flowers. Josh is outgoing and loves to share his good mood with everyone. It's a trait their audience is enthralled with. Sarcasm isn't not something he has ever been particularly good at. Joshua likes to keep his head in clouds, always happy to daydream. He loves to spend time listening and spending quality time with his friends and family.
Playful: He is known for being a bit of a trouble-maker. Joshua has a knack for bringing audience members into their act, for some safe tricks and really enjoys playing games. He is a bit of a prankster, mainly with the others who travel with their troupe. Josh wants everyone to have as much fun with life. With is his abundant energy he has no trouble going from a practice to running around playing sports or going out dancing with friends.
Friendly: Josh has always liked people. Even as a child he was known for making friends with anyone and everyone who would talk to him. Joshua is naturally extroverted and being with others makes him happy. He is incredibly nice and will go out of his way to be kind to others just to brighten someone's day. Josh gets along with people easily and even those he doesn't are still met with with respectable civility.
