The daughter of a Viscount of Emeraude, Juno was kidnapped by the vidrohan prior to the start of the war, her abduction providing the leverage they needed to keep her father quiet while they used his estate as a temporary headquarters. She started to empathize with her captors over time to the point of falling in love with a soldier of the rebellium. Though she doesn't agree with the violent methods, she thinks she understands why they are necessary. She does what she can to help things in the camp run smoothly and she tries to convince the slaves that the only thing keeping them enslaved is themselves. Really, if they only saw things like she did, then they would be as blissfully happy as she is.

Cleaning up the Vault wasn't the easiest task, but Juno found a bit of happiness in it, and thus she aspired to at least keep a corner of it clean, even if it was just the corner of the Vault in which she spent most of her time.

She had started with the room she shared with Maddox, though it was already neat compared to some of the others. She did clean it every time that Maddox asked her not to leave the room. Today was not one of those days however, and she gladly took the opportunity to stretch her legs and see what she could do to help out around the camps, starting with cleaning.

Juno liked cleaning. There was something about picking things up that she felt made the Vault feel a little more like home. She knew she didn't have to clean, she didn't have to do anything she didn't want to do, Maddox saw to that, but she really did enjoy it. That and overseeing the kitchens. She loved the kitchens.

Some of the baby shadows followed her to the kitchens, where she went to organize the supplies. She didn't know why they liked her gift, it wasn't that useful, still she couldn't help but to oblige when they asked her to change the colors of their clothing for them. In the kitchens she spent her time changing the colors of the food to make it look more appetizing. The food that looked better tasted better, everyone agreed, and so she set about, helping to make things look better.

She was so busy helping that she lost track of the time, only realizing how late it was when dinner was nearly finished. Her eyes widened in panic, Maddox was coming back today, what if she wasn't there to greet him? He would worry about her. She hadn't left a note or anything.

Dropping everything, she rushed back to the room she called home, hoping that Maddox wasn't back yet, or if he was, he wasn't worried. She hated making him worry about her, she loved him so much that she couldn't stand making him feel an negative emotion. "Maddox?" She asked tentatively as she entered the room she shared with him, not certain if he was back yet or not.

There was a cold wind sapping the heat from the men as they trudged back to the Vault. Maddox shrugged the bite of chill off and let the events of the latest mission roll around his brain. The men he'd slashed throats of tossed curses and spit angry, almost truths about the Vidrohan. They didn't seem like much of a threat when they lay blubbering on the ground like cowards but Mad simply followed orders and made sure they wouldn't have another chance to spread their information.

It was nice to be back at camp. His things were here, sheltered from the weather and he had no need to go out looking for food. Small things that had no real value, but Maddox took the all pleasures he could. That included the girl. Juno was good to have around. She didn't complain or cry like the others the Vidrohan kept. She was beautiful though, and that only made her harder to keep.

Unlike some of the others that could be found in different beds any night of the week, Juno stayed with him. People whispered about that sometimes, as if Maddox couldn't hear them behind him. Not that he cared. It wasn't like there was anything words could do to change the fact Juno belongs to him. More than one man found themselves black and blue from a wrong look at the girl. The ones who tried to touch her could be assured they'd see their own blood spattered across the ground.

He found himself in the hall before his room without really noticing. Thoughts in another places as his feet followed their own path. Maddox did notice however the girl cautiously stepping into his room. He watched from the doorway and responded to her questioning with one of his own. "What are you doing?"

The voices of others began to fill the corridor and he pulled her further into the room, shutting the door behind him. He had enough of people for today. "Did someone bother you?" Maddox could feel anger pressing at his chest at the thought. There would be hell to pay if anyone presumed to think they could have Juno.

Juno jumped in her surprise that Maddox was back already, but it quickly turned to happiness. There was always the fear in the back of her mind that he might go out and not return. What would she do then? She didn't think she could take it if he didn't come back from one of his missions.

"I was helping in the kitchens." Juno offered for her answer. "They're typically short handed and I had already cleaned everything in here-" She was rambling, she knew she was rambling, and Maddox cut her off as he grabbed her by the arm, pulling her into the room and shutting the door behind her.

"No, no one bothered me." Juno shook her head emphatically, eyes wide. She didn't want him to worry about something like that. People didn't really talk to her at all, so how could they bother her? Well, a few had, especially when he had first brought her to the vault...but no one had bothered her in a very long time.

She could see him starting to get upset, it was so sweet the way he got upset even at the notion of someone bothering her. Juno stepped closer to him, placing her hand on his chest, smiling softly as she looked at him. "Mad, I'm here and I'm yours." She spoke softly, hoping to reassure him. She could feel his heart beating under her fingertips, and she leaned in to kiss him.

When she finally pulled away from the kiss, she took his hands in hers and walked backwards, guiding him to the bed so they could sit beside one another. "Tell me about your latest mission?" She didn't like all of the details of his missions, but she liked hearing about his days away from her. The outside...well, it wouldn't do to dwell on thoughts of the outside.

The vault was her home. She didn't need anything beyond it.

The room was a defense, almost like a locked box full of things. Maddox knew little of most the other Vidrohans but claim was mostly understood. His room was his, and everything in it. She was talking. Mad paid some attention, catching words like 'kitchen' and 'cleaned'. Juno stopped when he shut the door and he listened then, after the noise and threat of the open hall was mostly forgotten.

"Good." It was one thing for people to bother the girl when he was around, knowing well enough that he would ensure they thought better of a second attempt, but another entirely while he was missing. Maddox let go of his hold on her arm, looking around room to ground himself. Getting angry now would only mean destroying his own room. Things were in order, not the way he had left them but easy to find. Juno seemed to make a habit of doing that, fixing things up her own way and he didn't stop her, He had nothing to hide and he could change it back if he wanted, so she could do whatever she pleased.

He found himself close to her again now. Juno could read him well enough. She spoke softly, ignoring the anger clenching his jaw and set her hand over the steady thunder of his heart. He kissed her back, curling his hands around her waist to keep her. The undercurrent of 'mine' rushing under his skin eased. She belonged to him and Mad knew as much.

Maddox let himself be moved back. He sat when his legs bumped against the bed and interlocked his fingers with Juno's. She asked about his mission and he blew out a huff of annoyance. "It was boring." That was probably the easiest way to explain it The girl seemed to like hearing about them though and Mad continued.

"There was a gang of men camped out near the border trying to sell information on the Vault's whereabouts." The makeshift camp made the men seem more like a wandering pack of thieves more than spies. It wasn't hard to see why the travelers ignored them. "We watched them for a day or so. Learning their routine and attacked when they were asleep."

As he entwined his fingers with her own, Juno smiled softly. He didn't seem thrilled with his mission...he never really seemed thrilled with such things, but obliging her request was good. That meant he hadn't gotten too upset.

"Did it rain while you were out there?" It was the question she always asked. She hadn't liked the rain very much when she had been in Emeraude and allowed to do as she pleased, but it was one of the things she missed the most being in the Vault. It had been three years since she had felt rain. She could see it in the vault, but the magical barriers stopped it well above their heads.

She sighed, laying her head on his shoulder. "It might have been boring, but you kept everyone here safe from those men." She picked her head back up, kissing him again. "Thank you."

Juno knew Maddox didn't see things the same way that she did, but she still felt incredibly grateful that he would risk his own life to protect those within the vault, her being one of those within. It was only right to thank him for such a thing.

Maddox glanced down at where their hands were joined, wondering really what made people like this sort of touching. It didn't serve any purpose really besides keeping track of someone in a crowd. All the same it wasn't bothering him so he allowed it.

There was that question she liked to ask. Mad never understood Juno's fascination with the rain. The Vault's magic kept it from bothering them and yet she seemed to want it. He shrugged, the movement rolling nearly his whole body with the effort of it. "Sort of. There was a gross slush sort of rain the first night. It was nothing exciting."

He scoffed at the idea of keeping the people in the Vault safe. "From them? Thorn bushes would be more threatening." Maddox grumbled. He supposed at least something good came of it, if Juno was going to keep kissing him he might even forget the stupid mission. It wasn't worth remembering. Mad ran his fingers through Juno's long hair and looked at her intently. "It's good that you're safe."

Juno didn't really remember what slush was like, but if Maddox didn't like it, it must not have been nice like the rain she remembered. It was probably cold. That wasn't what she wanted. She missed the warm misting rain of summer. She missed the differences in the days really. Living under the magic of the Vault meant living under clouds, and there were only so many cloudy days that one could bear.

"Not everyone is as strong as you are my love." It was always difficult for him to accept her compliments, he always downplayed things. Juno couldn't help but to love him more for how humble he was. Ten years and he still would grumble and try to worm his way out of her gratitude for all he did.

She smiled softly as he ran his fingers through her hair. There he was, the man she was in love with. He was never this tender if there were others around. His affections were something that was their little secret. "I'm so glad you're back, I missed you terribly."

Juno never knew how long he was going to be allowed to stay back in the Vault, but she knew she was infinitely happier when he was around. She didn't even long for the rain when he was in her arms.

Something about Juno was grounding. Maddox knew many people weren't as strong as half the creatures in the Vault, but he supposed it wasn't something he cared to think about. Of course the scrawny humans in the woods were easy to kill. They should have thought about that before they tried challenging that Vidrohan.

"I suppose." Mad offered, giving her statement acknowledgment. She seemed to think the people here needed protecting. Maddox disagreed. If anything it was the humans, like her , who needed the protecting and the Vault was good at keeping them in and threats out. It wouldn't do them any good to have to relocate though.

Juno was such a fragile thing. Maddox wondered how she would stay alive if he wasn't guarding her. She smiled and Mad mumbled a reply, keeping her held against him. "I'm glad you are here." He wasn't sure what missing someone really felt like. Others chatted about missing dead friends and such but it wasn't something he found easy. It must be like wanting a thing or person. "Do you want to get dinner?"

Juno nuzzled into his neck when he said he was glad she was there. Every time he came back to her, she never wanted to let him go again. She only pulled away when he asked her if she wanted to go get dinner.

"I'd love to." Juno nodded once to emphasize that she would very much like to get dinner with Maddox. She'd have to behave, but she was much better at it now than when he had first brought her to the Vault. She'd been scared at first, and people had frightened her. Maddox had protected her from them, but even when her fear went away other problems developed.

There were men and women who looked at her sometimes in ways that unnerved her and made Maddox very angry. Things were said to her when he wasn't around that gave her the chills and led to her hiding in his room until he came back and she could tell him who had bothered her. It had taken years for people to leave her alone, but new recruits didn't always know the rules of the Vault.

"The kitchens were given some ducks today, they made stew from some of the older ones, and some they kept for eggs." She frowned for a moment, remembering the chickens that had briefly lived in the Vault. She had liked helping to feed them before the fox girl thought it would be fun to catch them and bring them to her dragon. "If I help take care of the ducks, they said I could make us a chiffon sponge." She smiled at him, hoping he liked the idea. "I thought it might be nice to have a proper cake for your birthday this year."

Out of the people Maddox rolled around with, he could say without a doubt that Juno was the most affectionate. He did nothing to deter the closeness. It was something he had grow accustomed to and he expected it from her. She seemed to believe there was a bit more to him than anger. Mad had yet to find anything otherwise.

Maddox was content to be back in the Vault. At least here there was no need to hunt down prey and cook for himself. Hunting was tedious and while the food was typically somewhere between tasteless and horrible, it was already dead. The issues he found were more often the other people. Mad wasn't keen on chatting and small talk that eating with everyone was sure to lead to. Then there was Juno.

The smarter of the people avoided them all together. Still others leered and whispered. Before, Maddox could hardly pull her along to a meal without ending up with blood on his hands. Things weren't so difficult now, usually. He wouldn't hesitate to made clear exactly where they could shove their looks and wandering limbs.

"Ducks?" Maddox was dragged out his thoughts as Juno spoke about the kitchens. Livestock, really any animals didn't last too long here. There were always mouths to feed or strange games people took up. "Did you help them with the cooking?"

Maddox had no Earthly idea what a chiffon sponge was. He didn't have to wait but a moment to find out when Juno mentioned cake for his birthday. Oh boy, that again. "Just be careful. " He offered in response to her excitement of looking after the ducks. "That sounds great." Mad agreed, more for the idea of cake than a reason for it.

Though she felt safe with Maddox, she took care to keep her eyes lowered in the halls. She hated it when people thought she was looking at them and then did something about it. It usually wound up with Maddox having to protect her, and she was always worried that something bad might happen to him. If he got hurt on her behalf, she knew she’d never forgive herself.

She nodded when he asked about the ducks. “One of the patrols brought them back. I think they got them from one of the supply ships.” Juno might have spoken of patrols and supply ships, but that was only because she didn’t know that what she thought were patrols were actually raiders or spies and the supply ships were pirates. It was probably for the best she didn’t know such things. Sure she knew about the slaves, but that was different. They were prisoners of war who had to contribute if they wanted to be fed, that made sense. There was a sense of fairness there to her, after all, they were still alive. These things would have made less sense had she believed that the vidrohan were in the wrong, but such a notion hadn’t crossed her mind in years.

“I didn’t help with the cooking, just the end bit.” He would know what she meant. She often helped with the last bit when the food was done, changing the colors ever so slightly so it looked better. The sauce would look a little richer, the vegetables a little brighter. “Mostly I helped organize the new supplies today.”

She nodded emphatically when he told her to be careful. Juno always tried her best to be careful, especially when Maddox warned her to be. She would hate to do something stupid and make him worry.
