Yellow. There was so much yellow and whenever she got her nose too close to it, it went from being a creamy block into a river of yellow with white lumps in it.

The people had chased her away from the yellow more than once now, but she kept coming back if only because she was curious. It was such a strange thing.

This time though, she wasn't chased away. Instead a tiny girl had brought her out a chunk of the yellow that was bigger than she was, speaking softly as she encouraged Isolde forward. Holding her breath, she managed to make an imprint with her face and front claws into the yellow, shaking in excitement when she backed away and saw what she had done, her wings unfurling as she did so.

The tiny girl had clapped. Whatever this game was, Isolde was good at it.

She carefully licked the bits of yellow off of her claws while moving her tail to poke some holes in the block, each new hole causing her to wriggle in glee. The yellow was fun and it tasted good too. Not to mention the tiny girl was funny to watch.

When Isolde finally stopped playing with the yellow, the girl had taken it and put it in a glass box, one that Isolde had peered through intently to see why, but as far as she could tell, the glass box was just a box of glass. What point it served was beyond her. She scratched her name onto the piece of wood that was presented to her, and it was hung on her glass box of yellow.

It was on top of the box that she took a nap, stretched out in the warm sun, only to wake up to people all around, looking at her yellow and the other yellows around. Some of them were much prettier than hers, but she still thought her yellow was the best. Sure some of the other yellows were in more detailed shapes, but theirs probably didn't taste as good as hers did.

Uri. Uri had to see her yellow. Maybe the tiny girl would open the glass box and her and Uri could eat her yellow together. The yellow would taste so good smushed into the fluffy part of the moving pillows a few farms over.

The curiosities of the land world were endless. For hundreds and thousands of years, the cultures up here had shaped into so many little societies with their own stories and knickknacks. There was never a dull day of learning above the sea. He'd been invited to attend some sort of festival in the food area of Lairea. He knew it had a name, something that sounded like Eleanor, but he couldn't really be bothered to remember such a detail. With the way things were developing politically on the peninsula Uri was sure the next time he came up here they would all have new names and new people in power.

The food was excellently strange here though. They spent an awful lot of time cooking it which fascinated Uri. He often forgot other creatures could not digest things like dragons could. How they had survived so long because of that was beyond him. Their weaknesses gave way to creativity and they found ways to solve their problems. Atlantis had all sorts of interesting meals as well, cooked and uncooked as they were. The land people just had more variety it seemed. The funny creatures on land were fat and tasty. He'd had quite the fun time scaring the daylights out of them in his full humongous form.

His arms were full of cured meats and pie slices as he waddled towards a gathering crowd. If there was a crowd there was excitement. Uri was very much into being an impressed spectator. Just a while ago he'd watched a crazy human try to fly in some sort of contraption of her own making! She'd failed of course but it had been a delight to watch. Stuffing as much of the food into his mouth and the rest into his pockets he leaned over the smaller people around him to see what they were looking at.

He clapped in delight when he noticed Isolde was here. The people had given the dragon ample space, probably for the best, but Uri broke through the crowd to greet her, "I knew you would be at the food place! Here, try this!" Taking out an entire lime roasted chicken from his pockets much to the confusion of the crowd he tossed it to Isolde to eat, "that's good, right? They added some sort of liquid from a fruit on it. Isn't that just the snazziest idea!" it was then he noticed Isolde was on some sort of box with a strange yellow cube inside it. He gasped when he noticed the other dragon's face in the cube.

"That's your face!" he said as he pointed at the cube with wonder, "They carved your face?"

No sooner had she thought of Uri, than the other dragon appeared, though he was in his people shape. It made sense. His people shape was much smaller than his dragon one. He would have smushed all of the people on his way to the farm if he was in his dragon shape. When he threw the chicken at her, she jumped into the air, catching it as the force of it bowled her over onto her back. Sometimes it was difficult being barely larger than a house cat, but the chicken that she buried her face in was sour and delicious.

"I made me in the yellow!" She clarified for Uri. "I also made a river with the yellow, but they didn't like that." Leaving the bits of chicken left from the carcass on the ground, she hopped back up to the top of the glass box, poking at the glass with one of her claws.

Isolde was ignoring the people, many of whom seemed impressed that she could eat an entire roasted chicken and still hop about. Or perhaps they were looking because they were curious about Uri talking to her. It didn't matter why they were looking. They were stupid and useless. Except for the ones who made yummy things. Those people were okay.

She lay back down in the sun, turning so her belly was up. This way she was about the right height to look Uri in the eye, though to her, he was upside-down. "We need the yellow out. We need to smush it into the pillows and eat them. Or we need more yellow from the tiny one." She vaguely gestured with her tail to the people closest to the boxes. "She gave me this yellow. Maybe she will give you a yellow too and then we will have twice as much!"

"I didn't know you were an artist!" How exciting. He couldn't really imagine her sitting there carving the delicate looking yellow cube. Still, she must have and what talent she had! The cube face was exactly like Isolde's real face in every way. The people around him seemed to be fascinated with their conversation. Uri stood tall, delighted to have an audience for himself. He listened to Isolde's wishes nodding along enthusiastically, "well we could break it but it could harm the yellow. We should just ask."

Turning to the nearest human he smiled politely, "Hello, Lairean citizen, could you release the yellow?" The person blinked a few times before saying that the yellow was called Butter. Uri scrunched up his nose, not sure if he liked the name of the yellow, "Butt-er?!" he said, sounding it out dramatically, "that sounds a bit wrong. I think it should be known as the yellow." the human informed him that there were lots of yellow edible things in the world and that would be confusing. Uri considered the comment for a moment before shrugging it off, "you don't seem to have a problem with oranges, do you?"

The human either understood his point or had grown tired of arguing his own. Instead, they talked among themselves for a moment before bringing out huge chunks of the yellow plopped on top of a horse-drawn carriage, "If it would be alright with your dragon friend we would like to keep the one with her face in it. We have never had a dragon make art with our butter before. You can have these...yellows, though, if you'd like." Uri was tempted to accept the offer but he figured if dragons did not make art with the yellow before then maybe it was valuable.

Turning to Isolde who he had hoped was listening to the conversation he turned his head to the side curiously, "what do you think?" It was her face in the yellow after all. It should be her decision if she choose to abandon it for other yellows.

No sooner had the horse-drawn carriage come out with the large blocks of yellow then did Isolde soar over to them with a shriek of delight. Landing in the middle, she rolled around in the yellow in her joy at being given so much. "Look Uri!" She breathed as hard as she could through her nose without smoke or flame coming out, and the yellow melted before her face, creating rivers of gold with white lumps in it. Delighted at her rivers, she immediately began stomping in them, trying to make the gold splash as high as she could. Any memory of the yellow she had put herself in was long forgotten by the petite forest dragon.

"Uriiiiiiiiiiiiiii," she whined, "come playyyyyyyy." She no longer cared about the people around her. She only cared about Uri, and the yellow, and the tall dogs attached to the cart of yellow. The tall dogs would probably taste good in the yellow, but it was almost as if they knew what she was thinking, as they started getting agitated art being so near to a dragon and a human came to unhitch them and take them away. Without the tall dogs, the cart would stay put. Isolde wasn't big enough to pull it, nor did she have enough control of her magic to get the cart to move itself. Uri would be too big to pull it, and besides, humans tended to panic when it came to the larger dragons. Or perhaps Uri's people shape was strong enough to pull it?

"We should bring the yellow to the pillows and smush it in them and eat them!" She said to only him, standing on the tallest peak of yellow, head raised high as she was particularly proud of such an idea. Surely Uri would see what a good idea it was and help her figure out how to accomplish it.

Ah, the soft joy of being a dragon. Uri had forgotten the fun of discovering new things. He'd been working so hard for so long. Having a bit of fun with the yellow sounded just like the kind of break he should have. It seemed the deal was struck and the humans carded off with their horses and their yellow. He watched in wonder for a while, mouth slightly agape, as the yellow melted into a watery form. It truly was a delightful thing, this yellow. He wished he could take it back to Atlantis with him but he feared it would all go into liquid in the water trip.

Besides he was not quite ready to head back yet. There was still so much more to discover. Grabbing the ends of the cart where the horses had been, he began whistling a tune as he dragged it away from the human festival. It was easy enough to take it and the Isolde on top of it though it must have been quite a sight. Transforming back to his natural form though would do him little good. Humans tended to scream in horror when they would see him and that would ruin all the yellow fun.

"Which way to the clouds?" he asked Isolde, hoping that she could guide him. He had a feeling they better hurry or else all the yellow would melt away before they could use it properly.

"I can't believe the humans never thought to combine the yellow and the clouds before," he said, flabberghasted by their lack of ingenuity at times, "they really do waste a lot of time, don't they?"

”Humans are dolts.” Isolde said matter-of-factly. She was so glad that Uri was strong enough to pull the cart with all of the yellow. Isolde hopped out of it, running along the taut length of the rope that Uri was pulling. When she got to Uri, she hopped up onto his shoulders, wrapping herself around them like a scarf.

Most days Isolde resented her small stature. She was the smallest forest dragon she knew, barely larger than a house cat. Most of the others were between the size of a wolf and a horse. Granted her size didn’t stop her from eating as many clouds as a much larger dragon, it just made her unable to do most of the other things that larger dragons like Uri could do.

”They had clouds with flowers crowns that way, but there were also a lot of people. So we should go see the clouds by the red barn.” Isolde pointed the way with her tail as she continued to lick the butter off of her claws.

Isolde stretched and yawned before nuzzling into Uri’s shoulder. After eating all of that yellow, she was starting to get sleepy, and the way Uri bounced as he walked was a nice kind of bouncy like a boat on rough waves. She liked how boats on rough waves made people turn green, it was like humans did have a magic power all of their own if only you bounced them hard enough.

Isolde felt comfortably warm on his back though he supposed it must have been a strange sight for the humans. They were always so perplexed though. To Uri, it seemed a day couldn't go by without him having to gently connect their jaws back together after having dropped them open like little flycatchers. Hell, they even got offended when he did human things like show off his form or smile. Granted he supposed his human form was absolutely delectable and their society, at least here in Lairea, was a bit prudish.

Isolde seemed to be ready to munch on clouds as soon as possible but he thought it best to get out of the festival grounds altogether. He was finally starting to put together that this place was for presenting your wares to the public so they would be inclined to come buy exclusively from you in the market. He certainly would not have liked people eating his wares especially ones he'd fitted flower crowns on.

Scratching at Isolde's tiny head as he walked, he cut a path out of the festival grounds and towards the mountains, "those clouds aren't free. We would have to pay for them. The clouds out here have no price." Granted, they had gotten the yellow for free but he did not want to risk not being able to eat it all due to monetary concerns. He had a few coins in his pocket but as a dragon, he was not inclined to part with them any time soon.

Reaching a plane far enough away from the others, he shifted into his dragon form, stretching languidly as he took up most of the free space. With Isolde still on his back, he was careful not to squish her as he laid down on his stomach and rested his head on his front paws, "I believe the clouds might see me before I can catch them. Perhaps you chased them my way so I can prepare them with the yellow?"
